Our admissions process and criteria
Our admissions process is designed for us to get to know you as an individual, help you craft an itinerary that works for you, and of course, build an awesome cohort of travelers who are ready to greet every adventure with an open mind.
We’re still accepting applications for Spring 2021! Applicants are accepted on a rolling basis, but we recommend applying as soon as possible while spaces last.
The first step is to decide which program is right for you, and (if applicable) the modules that best fit your interests and goals. Should you have any questions or concerns, our Gap Year Consultants are here to guide you and your family through the process of planning your gap. To get in touch with a Gap Year Consultant, fill out a brief interest form.
Once you’ve decided where to go for your gap, you can begin your application, where you’ll be asked to pick your program, choose your modules and destinations, and tell us more about yourself. Don’t worry, your selections are not binding, and this is not your college application—just a few questions to make sure the program is a good fit for you.
If we think your application is a good fit, you’ll be invited to interview with someone on our team. Within a week of your interview, you’ll hear back about your admissions decision.
Once accepted, reserve your spot on our program by putting down a deposit and selecting your payment plan.
Every year, EF Gap Year awards up to $50,000 in merit-based scholarships to help students offset the cost of their program. You might look into other private or community-based means of fundraising too. For more information, check out Scholarships and Fundraising.
After booking your program, you’ll be paired with a Student Advisor who will be your point person for all things moving forward. From applying to internships to packing for your travels, they’ll be there to help you feel as ready for your gap as can be.
We encourage all qualified students to apply for an EF Gap program. Whoever you are, whatever you are passionate about—we welcome you and want you to bring that to our program. We are committed to inclusion and belonging across race, ethnicity, gender identity/expression, sexual orientation, age, religion, ability, parental status, veteran status, experience and everything else that makes you unique. We continually seek to build and maintain a vibrant community of program participants that reflects the rich diversity of our world.
