Admissions Process

Our admissions process and timeline

Taking a gap year is a big decision—we’re here to help you navigate the ins and outs.

Our admissions process is designed for us to get to know you as an individual, help you craft an itinerary that works for you, and of course, build an incredible cohort of travelers who are ready to greet every adventure with an open mind.

Applicants are accepted on a rolling basis, but we recommend applying as soon as possible to secure your spot. Some destinations are already full for our 2021-2022 EF Gap Year program!

Admission Process
  1. Step
    Choose your program

The first step is to learn about our programs and choose the best fit for you. Browse our website and sign up for a webinar led by an EF Gap Year staff member.

Should you have any questions or concerns, our Gap Year Consultants are here to guide you and your family through the process of planning your gap. To get in touch with a Gap Year Consultant, fill out a brief interest form.

  2. Step
    Submit your application

Once you’ve decided where to go for your gap, you can begin your application, where you’ll be asked to pick your program, choose your modules and destinations, and tell us more about yourself. Don’t worry, your selections are not binding, and this is not your college application—just a few questions to make sure the program is a good fit for you.

Our application fee is $129. If you are accepted to our program, this fee is nonrefundable and will count towards your program deposit.

  3. Step
    Interview

If we think your application is a good fit, you’ll be invited to interview with someone on our team. Within a week of your interview, you’ll hear back about your admissions decision.

  4. Step
    Enroll and reserve your spot

Once accepted, reserve your spot on our program by putting down a deposit and selecting your payment plan.

  5. Step
    Apply for scholarships and funding

Every year, EF Gap Year awards up to $50,000 in merit-based scholarships to help students offset the cost of their program. You might look into other private or community-based means of fundraising too. For more information, check out Scholarships and Fundraising.

  6. Step
    Get ready to travel!

After booking your program, you’ll be paired with a Student Advisor who will be your point person for all things moving forward. From applying to internships to packing for your travels, they’ll be there to help you feel as ready for your gap as can be.
