By entering college more socially and academically prepared, gap year students are less likely to change their majors, more likely to graduate faster than their peers, and on average, have higher GPAs.
Our gap year programs are designed with EF’s travel-based learning philosophy, G²PA, which develops growth mindset, global perspective, and personal development while focusing on action and impact. Through your EF Gap Year program, you’ll develop better habits, time management skills, and independence by navigating the world on your own. Pricing for our programs vary per itinerary:
Your Gap Year program fee includes everything you need to have a successful gap. Here is just some of what your program fee covers:
You can pay in full upon enrollment, or you can select a payment plan to pay for your program in the months leading up to departure.
By enrolling in the program earlier, you can stretch out your payments over a longer period of time. Speak with your Gap Year Consultant for more information. See more details on payment deadlines here. For further details on payment deadlines, visit our Booking Conditions, or speak with your Gap Year Consultant for more information.
EF Gap Year awards up to $50,000 each year in merit-based scholarships and fellowships to qualified students enrolled on a gap program to help offset the cost of the program. These scholarships and fellowships are highly competitive; typically, early enrollment helps students have the time necessary to complete everything that is required for application by the associated deadlines. These fundraising opportunities include:
Global Citizens Scholarship
Awarded to students who show great enthusiasm, aptitude, and commitment for learning and growing in a global community.
Digital Media Fellowship
Recipients of the Digital Media Fellowship are natural storytellers. As an EF Gap Year Fellow, you will share your experiences during the time you are abroad via various online and social media platforms.

My gap semester made me a more confident person. With my new confidence and leadership skills, I feel more ready and mature when it comes to entering college in the fall.

I would recommend EF Gap Year to anyone ages 18-22 because I think those are years when your main goal should be to learn about yourself and the world. Now that I’m entering college, I feel like I have the upper hand: I feel more prepared mentally and more focused. I know what I want wholeheartedly and I’m excited to work to achieve that.
