Shaylyn

EF Gap Year Consultant – Denver, CO

It’s safe to say that my love for traveling and other cultures has shaped my entire life! During my sophomore year of college, I spent a semester studying in Rome, Italy, where I took classes on Baroque art and architecture. It was fascinating, exciting, and a million other wonderful things. The travel bug had bit me and I was hooked.

I figured one semester away would be enough and I would be eager to get back to my college campus in Pittsburgh, PA, but that was not the case: I returned to college, applied for a scholarship, and immediately enrolled in another semester abroad at University College Dublin in Ireland. Learning alongside students from around the world challenged me and opened my eyes to different perspectives and ways of life. It ultimately inspired me to change my major to International Business. These experiences taught me that travel is our best teacher and inspired me to help support other students looking to take learning outside of the classroom. I’m passionate about our programs and their ability to shape the lives of students, giving them clarity in their next step.

I know talking on the phone isn't anyone's favorite thing to do, but here's why calls are part of our process: taking a gap year is an incredible, life-changing decision—one that you'll feel way more confident about after talking it all over with an expert who can guide you through the process of building your perfect gap. Baby steps, though, so feel free to start by texting me!

Language in Barcelona, Spain

My fiancé is a fluent Spanish speaker after living and working in South America and he’s inspired me to try and learn Spanish! I’d love to be able to travel to Spanish-speaking countries and be able to connect with the locals. Not to mention, Barcelona is a vibrant and exciting city, and I’d love to spend time living there.

My former roommate was from Stockholm, and when I went to visit her there a few years ago, I fell in love with the city. It’s so easy to navigate on your own, the old part of town was charming, and the people were very welcoming!
